Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral position in the lab of Susana Chung at UC Berkeley School of Optometry. The position is jointly funded by two NIH research projects aiming at understanding the oculomotor limitations on spatial vision in humans with central vision loss, and the development of novel assistive technology for the visually impaired. The research will use a combination of techniques — eye movement measurements, visual psychophysics, retinal imaging, and computational modeling — to study our research questions.
The position is ideal for a young scientist who would like to apply his/her knowledge and skills in solving real-life challenges facing those who are visually impaired. There will be ample opportunity to learn and apply different techniques, and to ask your own research questions.
The successful applicant should have, or will have his/her PhD in Vision Science, Engineering, Psychology, Neuroscience, or a closely related discipline. Programming experience in MATLAB, C/C++ or Python is a must, in addition to expertise in at least one of the following areas: eye movements, visual psychophysics, optical engineering, retinal imaging, computational modeling.
Salary will follow the UC Berkeley Postdoc Scholar salary scale (higher than the standard NIH scale). Start date is flexible. Initial appointment will be for one year, with possible continuation based on performance.
